About Us

From the general manager…

The rapid growth of the U.S. Hispanic population has demonstrated the need for making available more quality Christian literature. This web site will help you associate many of our new releases with recent or classic titles or authors well-known to U. S. retailers of Christian books.

In just a few years, Editorial Patmos has positioned itself as a respected publisher of books in addition to its Christian education product line. A quick glance through our web site will reveal the quality of books and well-known authors that have been chosen for the positive contribution they can make to the Spanish-speaking community world-wide.

Passion for the Word
Passion. What is it? A perfume? A fruit? A flower?

In the world of sales, passion for a product is imperative. Sports fans demonstrate passion for their favorite teams in a number of ways. Preachers are passionate in their presentations. But what about passion in our lives as disciples of Christ? Do we demonstrate the same commitment as that shown by the followers of other religions?
A search for passion on the internet will come up with numerous references to Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of Christ. Other sites promise leads to the perfect spouse. But among these is a site dedicated to promoting passion among university students in their service for the Lord.
Passion can be defined as "extreme, compelling emotion; intense emotional drive or excitement; enthusiasm or fondness; strong love or affection", as well as sexual drive or desire. But the root of the word is found in the Greek pathos, and originally meant suffering, or agony, not only physically, but also emotionally, as in the "passion of Christ". Through the centuries, the word, along with it's Latin counterpart, affectio (affection), have come to have more positive than negative connotations.
This past year, Editorial Patmos has published two books emphasizing passion in the discipleship process: A Passionate Life and The Passionate Church. We believe that believers in Christ should have the same, if not more, passion than is seen in the world of sports, politics or any other secular arena. Do we have passion for studying the Word of God? Are we passionate about our families? For those around us who do not yet know the Lord in a personal manner?
If we just understand passion in the way the world understand the term, we would be missing the true meaning of the "passion of Christ". Christ gave his life for us. "For God so loved" meant suffering.

We don't have to go in search of suffering, but as with Paul, we can rejoice in the times of suffering. Perhaps this is what Paul meant in Colossians 1:24: "I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body (which is the church) in filling up that which is lacking in Christ's afflictions." If we want to be passionate Christians, to be part of a passionate Church, we should understand that passion is one of the best words to describe the life of Christ. To be like Him is to have a passionate life, beginning with an understanding that suffering for Him will also result in sharing His glory. Editorial Patmos has adopted Passion for the Word as it's motto. We hope that you will share that passion with us.
